Samsung Galaxy S3 for North America has 2GB RAM and Dual Core Processor

According to new reports, Samsung’s latest smartphone could have completely different specifications when it is released in North America later this year.

Samsung has announced the Galaxy S III will be available in Canada from the 20th of June, on a number of leading Canadian networks. The press release leads to some interesting conclusions, however. The specs are quite different to the I9300 specifications we’ve previously reported.

If this press release is to be believed, the Galaxy S3 coming to Canada and North America will be a completely different model to the European variant. We knew Samsung would release a 4G version, but this is a new concept altogether. The press release indicates this edition of the Galaxy S3 will contain 2GB of RAM, while the quad-core processor has been replaced with an unspecified dual-core version.

One of the key features of the Galaxy S3 was its quad-core processor. Bumping up the RAM from 1GB to 2GB could help run multiple applications simultaneously, but reducing from quad-core to dual-core might have significant performance impacts. Unless Samsung has found a more efficient processor, with a higher clock speed than the one included in their international variant.

What do you think of the new specifications? Are you going to wait for the North American version? Or will you buy the Samsung Galaxy S III from overseas?

Galaxy S III Review – TechRadar’s Take On The New Galaxy

We’ve already told you what The Verge thinks of Samsung’s latest smartphone. Now let’s take a look at what TechRadar has to say.

Galaxy S3 in Palm of Hand

Right from the start of their review, Tech Radar are critical about the plastic design.

The plastic feeling of the Galaxy S3 won’t appeal to all. It feels very lightweight (despite tipping the scales at 133g) in the hand, and some people will read this as feeling a little cheap.

It’s a similar opinion to what The Verge offered, and we can see that this will be a common theme amongst Galaxy S3 reviews. But all is not lost! Tech Radar did have some kinder words to say about the physical aspects of this device.

But in the hand, the Samsung Galaxy S3 feels superb. The design contours well against the palm, and while the screen size may be a little big for some (you’ll need a bit of shuffling to reach the upper section of the screen) it’s definitely useable in the hand.

Based on sales figures for the Galaxy S2, we’d hazard a guess that there is definitely a market for large screen smartphones. Continue reading
